Surveillance brings fly tipping blight to an end

Private investigator surveillance techniques assist local councils

As private investigators we are often hired by local councils to monitor and provide evidence of anti-social behaviour.  In this instance we were asked to provide surveillance of a site experiencing fly tipping on an industrial scale.

The site in question was secured by gates enclosing the yard where the fly tipping was taking place.  We have a particular expertise in surveillance investigations and to catch the fly tippers we devised an innovative weatherproof hidden camera system deployed in a pile of rubble, affectionately nicknamed ‘Boothroyd’s bricks’.

The hidden camera footage identified a huge lorry arrive at 5 o’clock in the morning, open the gates and dump its contents – a huge pile of rubbish.  The lorry had a foreign number plate but a west of Scotland telephone number featured on its cab door.  It turned out this was an innovative way for a skip hire company to off-load the rubbish it had been paid to collect.

As a result of the evidence our surveillance provided the company was sued for the £100,000 clean up bill and received the undivided attention of the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.
